The PMC Studio Ltd’s
First UK Precious Metal Clay Conference - May 2008
The PMC Studio is very pleased to confirm that its first UK Precious Metal Clay Conference, at the beautiful And historical Missenden Abbey, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire…… was a sell out success!.
The event took place on Saturday and Sunday 24th and 25th May 2008. Since The PMC Studio Ltd started business in August 2005, it has been a particular goal of its owner, Helen O’Neill, to establish a regular conference event. “As the UK distributor for Precious Metal Clay, I hope that our first UK conference will become a regular event that will bring together a growing number of like-minded PMC artists from all around the country” says Helen.
The conference was workshop-based, and open to artists of all skills levels and abilities to not only learn new techniques from our well-established PMC instructors, but also learn how they might channel these skills into viable business ventures. Classes as diverse as Using PMC with resin, Enameling on PMC, Pmc marketing on the iNternet and Recycling or….how to resurrect those…’oh dear that was not quite right!’ pieces proved popular. Mary Ann Devos came over from the states and gave a fabulous workshop using her new dry construction technique.
We had the Birmingham assay office in attendance to give advice and help on all aspects of the work they carry out, and Dr Jack Ogden of The Gemological Society gave an informative and humerous after dinner speech. It was a great opportunity for networking with other artists in an atmosphere of informality and learning. All delegates left bedecked with newly made items, new friends and our fun goodie bag ! The feedback was all positive…apart from one small thing….it was too short!! So ok, next year we are extending it!
“Our aim was to ensure that all our delegates leave with new-found enthusiasm and plenty of ideas that they can include in their respective future planning” said Helen O’Neill, Propreitor of The PMC Studio….well……. job done I’d say!
